Nominate posts for Blogger TV on 18 Doughty St

Iain Dale has invited me back tomorrow to appear on 18 Doughty Street. Blogger TV which can be found here 9-10pm. Afterwards I'll be co-presenting Vox Politics with Iain from 10pm -11pm. For the first hour ( 9pm-10pm on Blogger TV) we'll be talking about blog issues du jour, including 25 minutes on 'why do so few women blog', and looking at our best three blog posts of the week. Then at 10pm -11pm we'll look at topical news issues, and at 11pm check out Tuesday's papers and reveal the panels' best blog posts of the day. I'll let you know who the other guests are as soon as I know.

So if you have spotted any great posts this week from bloggers of either gender - please feel free to let me know in the comments, so I can big them up on 18 Doughty St tomorrow and link to them on this blog..

Next up...'women bloggers'.

This chap blogs about commuting in London, and I find it quite amusing.

He's not a woman, but does have long hair, so if you see him from the back and squint, you could be mistaken :-)

No post in particular.. all at http://themodelcommuter.com/

Feel free to use/quote any of this, for the price of a link :-)

Women On-Line

There seem to be more women bloggers in the states.

I think the dearth of women bloggers here is down to the "robustness" of "debate".

Let's put it this way: when I was kris sans Roy Keane photo, I had all sorts, men and women, piling in to give me a kicking. They still do from time to time, but I am sure that some people believe the pic is of me and accordingly, I believe I get less shit because of it. (even though that is not the reason I put it up.)

It is only because i have the capacity to give as good as I get and have a very thick skin that I enjoy it carry on.

Most of the time it is like shooting fish in a barrel, but there are a few bloggers of substance, like you, Dave Hill, That's so Pants and Ms Baroque that make you think- even if you disagree.

For me, that's what this is all about.

But I can see, if one was a lady who doesn't really like confrontation anyway, why you may rather just comment every once in a while than open yourself and your blog to abuse.

A Good Evening to Bury Bad News?

The BBC has just run a STORY about John Reid wanting to break up the Home Office. Surely this couldn't be a deflection tactic could it? I haven't seen the Sunday papers yet, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if there was another Cash for Honours revelation and the Labour spin doctors have thought to themselves: 'what shall we use to draw attention away from it'? Cynical, ain't I?

As I am schizophrenic we will be in charge of both departments. Sorted.

John Reid, I enjoyed your comment so much I just read it out to David Davis on the phone, who, judging from the menacing chuckling, enjoyed it even more.

I would like to suggest a post by Fr. Tim Finigan who writes a blog called The Hermeneutic of Continuity. The post relates to a meeting that has taken place in Rome between various bishops of the Catholic Church on the subject of the Church in China. The Chinese Catholic Church has been persecuted since the 50s when the Communists came to power. In times past, the Vatican has taken a very cagey approach to China but now the Pope is set to write a formal letter to the Church there. It may not sound much, but I think this is a big move for a pope to make given how difficult China can be towards what it calls foreign 'interference'.

Let's see; certainly RabbitStrike on CBB, which you recommended on Saturday and, on the same topic, That's So Pants on Is Goody the Baddy?.
Changing the subject completely, Ms Melancholy on Therapy By Numbers..., Ms Baroque on the Friday resolution: recap about her resolutions to consume less and Liz, of Finding Life Hard, on I blame it on Valerie (Singleton).

I came to your site via City Slicker's blog at http://www.cityslicker1.blogspot.com. As a Londoner I tend to really enjoy City Slicker's female take on the Big Smoke. She mixes the political and the personal with great wit. The site has great energy and she has spent much time in NYC so you get that NYLON slant as well. Oh and for posts this one on Carbon Emissions was one of my favourites of late: http://cityslicker1.blogspot.com/2007/01/sins-of-emission.html. I definitely would recommend her as a fiesty female blogger that is inclusive rather than just ramblings about what she ate for dinner last night!

Like you site very much. Will check back!

That's So Pants is a consistent and excellent writer with a razor sharp wit. I sound like her agent. Honestly, I'm not. But her post 'Is Goody the Baddy' is just about the most insightful I have read on this topic.

AGAIN!!

I this some kind of reverse discrimination then ? I suppose ID can do whatever he likes but something about this feels a bit wrong to me. Now then lets have a look at how feisty and witty this city slicker is ?She comes so highly recommended I`ll be disappointed if its the usual half baked pleasantries.

Off I pop.

Further to my above post, check my blog out for what may well be my first scoop. Call it inside information, it may not be accurate, but it won't be far off the mark...

I am new to the game but it strikes me you have to be prepared to stick your neck out to blog and take the flak that comes your way. Readers can take you very literally and get very offended very fast by what you have blogged - judging by some of the comments I have had. Sometimes, I think women are reluctant to offend and too prepared to listen. They do not like the idea that what they say might prompt a personal and aggressive response. Instead of just thinking "Fine, if you don't like what I have got to say, find another blog to read mate."

Do fewer women blog? Or do the commentators just not read so many women's blogs?

Perhaps some of us just choose not to participate in the Westminster-centric debates that rage in the UK blogosphere.

Couldn't give a hoot whether a blog is by a man or a woman; if it's interesting I'll read it. I think some men may feel a little threatened by an articulate, intelligent woman, whether she be a blogger or journalist or whatever else. It's sexual jealousy, I think. Some men feel inadequate and need to express their supposed dominance over women. I hate that. Tell you what, in my working life I have found that there is far more unspoken "rivalry" that goes on between male employees and their male bosses, than between male employees and their female bosses. Give me a woman boss, every time. I've always felt more at ease working under a good female boss, than under a male boss.

Heck, I'm agreeing with you too much these days! Gotta find something to challenge you on! Got it: As a certified right-winger, I totally disagreed with you "bigging up" Magistrate's blog on 18DS earlier this evening. Sorry but I've been reading his blog off and on for more than a year now, and his liberal views (more concerned with the rights of criminals and prisoners than with those of their victims, so it seems to me) make me want to do something rather uncouth every time I read it. So there.

It seems to me, often, that the main function of the internet has been to convince thoughtless loudmouths that what they would previously have said in a saloon bar is now somehow worthy of being committed to prose.

If you need help with cooking I`m quite good ..and remember to dust underneath as well as on top !! Glad you are giving up work . I think it works better that way. You may turn out not so bad after all
