I have finally got round to having a Facebook account. I had no idea how it worked before, but when I joined two days ago it asked me if I would like to invite people in my email contact list to be my friends. So I did, and now I have 118 friends! It is a very handy way of keeping in touch with people who don't blog, but I will have to watch that I don't fall into the Facebook black hole and spend hours and hours on there...

It's very addictive!
As a veteran of social networks, my top tip is to keep your network to people you actually care about! I trimmed my myspace network from 500 to 200 people I actually know and want to know what they're up to. Otherwise you're just going to get inundated with crap.

the addictiveness wears off after a while I found. Which was a good thing as my productivity levels increased dramatically.

I have a facebook account and I was rather surprised when Rachel popped up on it. My excuse is I just am not bothered by it and I tend not to look at it because I can never remember the password for it.. addiction cured!
Eventually there will not be any one else to look for from the past, you will have exhausted all your 'so what have you done in the last 10 years' conversations, you will have remembered why you didn't stay in touch with the majority of them, your home feed becomes overwhelming as you have so many friends and you will decide that it is better to actually see the people you want to see, rather than just poke them. And your conscience will make you get back to work. That said, it is nice to catch up with people that you would see if they didn't happen to be living in Australia etc.
I can't join facebook or myspace, I just can't. I feel like I will be sucked into more than I can handle so I just keep blogging. My friends and family say "oh MY you don't have a _____ account?"
I feel so out of it!
I'm with Jessica. And I also have a nagging feeling that it's 'Something The YOUNG People Do', which scares me off, as I am becoming resolutely sucked in to Werther's Original World :).
